Quantum Shishu Kanon
Let a Thousand Flowers Bloom
Quantum is committed to extending its services to those who need it the most. With this in mind, Quantum established Shishu Kanon– a rehabilitation center for deprived children– in Keyajupara, Lama, Bandarban, one of the remotest areas of the country. In this ‘Garden of Children’ destitute children belonging to deprived indigenous groups get a chance to blossom. The center provides all the support necessary for the children to grow up as enlightened individuals.

Be a Soul Parent!
You can play a significant role in transforming the lives of these promising children by becoming a soul parent, or soul sibling. Soul parenthood does not entail any legal obligations; it simply means sharing the cost of bringing up a child. Quantum members and general public alike can become soul parents and taste the exquisite feeling of giving selflessly to the deserving. To become a soul parent, please contact the Quantum center, branch or cell nearest to you. |
Shishu Kanon School was established in 2001 with just 7 residential members. The center now houses 170 children from various indigenous groups: Murongs, Marmas, Chakmas, Tripuras, Boms, Tinchongas, Khumis, Chaks, Khyangs, Lusai, and the almost extinct Pangkhoyas, in addition to Bengalees. Their religions range from Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism to Krama (an indigenous faith), Christianity, (Catholic and Baptist) and nature worship. Shishu Kanon is unique among the schools in Chittagong Hill Tracts in that so many groups and religions are represented.
A new school building is being built
|
In 2005, a playground complete with sea-saws, swings and sleepers was built to the great excitement of the children. In 2006, the Abdullah Abu Sayeed Library, named after the award winning social activist, and founder of the Bishwa Sahitya Kendra (or World Literature Center, designed to offer youth exposure to world literature), was inaugurated.
Students presenting a spectacular display
|
The results of the sincerity and dedication of everyone involved with this school is already starting to show. Every year on National Victory Day, Lama and the greater Bandarbon authorities arrange parade and display competitions among the students of various schools. Shishu Kanon has won this competition for the last four years in a row.
