Extend Your Hand in Kindness to the SIDR affected People
SIDR Affect

Along with devastation, cyclone SIDR has brought something else. It has brought alive the love and compassion that binds the people of this country together in a way that has not been felt in a long time. Regardless of economic or social background, we feel we are all one people, and feel the urge to stand by each other with whatever we have. If you feel the same way- if you have been wishing you could do something but do not know how, donating to Quantum Foundation’s SIDR Relief Fund can be an ideal option for you. You may donate clothes: old or new and/or money equivalent to one day’s income or expenditure to the fund. Feel free to donate more if you want to. We will try our best to take your donations to the neediest of the needy.

Many have already donated to the fund; many are continuing to do so. More than five thousand pieces of clothes (including winter clothes) have already been distributed in a few villages in Southkhali in Shoronkhali Bagerhat – the worst affected area; and Kolapara and Taltoli in Potuakhali and Borgona respectively. Collection and distribution will continue for a while.

You can donate direct to our bank account:

Qurbani 2007: Your Sacrifice Once Again Brings a Smile to the People of Lama
Qurbani 2007

With the combined contributions from all of you, we were able to distribute 7396 kilograms of meat (from 64 cows and 6 lambs) among 4088 impoverished families Lama, Bandarban during this year’s Eid ul Ajha.

It is hard to imagine, being here in the town, how much this humble effort means to the local people. Most of the families in the areas surrounding the Quantum Meditation Resort get to have meat only once a year, so they wait eagerly for this day. We hand out tokens to ensure discipline in the meat distribution process. One family’s token had been accidentally torn into 3 or 4 pieces, but they had carefully sewn the pieces together so that the token could be presented and the meat would not be missed.

This year, the Chairman of the Soroi Union, Mr. Mohammad Ali joined in the celebrations, so did the son and representative of the local Bo Mong king, Honorable Chohla Pru Jimmy. The chairman pledged to have his own sacrifice in the Lama Meditation Resort next year. Honorable Chohla Pru Jimmy expressed his pleasure and surprise in the way a Muslim religious festival has become an occasion of joy for Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, and Christians alike.

The pro Quantiers (Quantum volunteers) in charge of the processing, packaging and distribution process worked together like a well-oiled machine to complete everything in surprisingly short time. The sacrificing started at 8:14, and the processing and packaging was complete by 1:45. The distribution amongst the token holders was over in just 17 minutes after in started at 1:52.

This shows once again that with unity, good intentions and an effective system, one can make the seemingly impossible, possible. For many Quantiers, the experience was an invaluable lesson in effective service, and one of the most meaningful Eids of their lives.

Deciding to have our sacrifices in Lama does not cost us any extra money, but makes a real difference in the lives of many. We hope next year more of us will participate in this rewarding program.

Shishu Kanon stood first in parade

Three Day Special Training Program Boosts Up Pro-Quantiers
3 day Pro-Quantiers' Training Program

‘I have attended many Quantum programs, but I have never felt the kind of belongingness I feel now’, said a pro-Quantier (Quantum volunteer) at the end of the Special Three Day Programs for Pro-Quantiers in the Meditation Hall of Quantum Meditation Resort in Lama held on December 18-20.

More than 160 young pro-Quantiers gathered from various parts of the country including Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Jessore, Khulna, Bogra , Borishal, Naogaon to take part in the program designed to help them develop their talents, skills and personalities and become more effective in personal and professional lives. The program consisted of several presentations on a variety of topics such as positive and negative resonance, the way to develop skills and versatility, public relations and speaking, balancing work and family, overcoming ego, achieving unity, Quantum Foundation’s uniqueness, etc. There was also detailed discussion on the qualities and traits of a smart pro-Quantier. Various members of the Foundation’s core group of speakers made the presentations.

The program also included sessions in which the participants got the chance to sharpen their public speaking skills by making a short presentation on a topic of their choice.  At the end of program there was a cultural show presented by the participants. The participants showed their immense promise in both events.

The tremendous impact of the program could be seen in dedication, unity and efficiency of the Pro-Quantiers during Qurbani the next day. Where it takes us almost all day to process and distribute the meat of one cow at our homes, each group of Quantiers and butchers processed one cow per hour (12 cows per hour in total) in Lama. What was amazing is that someone who wouldn’t even touch raw meat at home participated in the whole process with obvious enjoyment.

We hope and pray that the Almighty helps us all become better servers.

Treat Every Success as Ground Zero: Guruji Explains the Secret of Using Monchobi for Success
workshop

‘If we know the answer to two questions, a) Why our liberation war was successful, and b) Why we could not reap its benefits; we will understand all we need to about how to use monchobis (mental images)for success, Guruji Shahid El Bukhari Mahajatak said at the beginning of the workshop on Monchobi for Success  on December 14.

‘Our liberation war is a great example of a monchobi’, he said. It was successful because the three most important preconditions of a successful monchobi were met:

        1. Belief in the goal: the belief that we could achieve freedom made us run after a tank with just an air gun;
        2. Unity: People who were strangers ten minutes ago worked as a team under their leader;
        3. All out Efforts: Everyone except a microscopic minority did everything they could: be it fighting directly or simply providing food, shelter or information; without stopping to think when and how the goal would be achieved.

Because we had a monchobi- a definite vision- our nation reached a pinnacle of unity and compassion during the liberation war. We achieved success amazingly quickly. Yet immediately after the war was over, the picture was starkly different. We became confused, greedy, and hostile towards each other. Why?

The reason is that we did not have a new monchobi to replace the old one. All too often, in personal and national lives, we become complacent after achieving a small success. We set a goal, achieve it, and think we will live ‘happily every after.’ like in fairy tales.
For example, the student who had brilliant results in school, college and university fails to make any significant contributions in life because of the lack of a monchobi in their careers.

But those who are truly successful never stop. The secret to using monchobi for success is treating each success as ground zero. Treating the past and past and setting a new goal for the future. This is the secret of success for the multinationals ruling the world. Every successful MNC, from Gillette to Microsoft, already have the next product in the pipeline when they launch one.

Striving towards one goal after another does not mean we should have no gratitude. ‘Being grateful or content is not the same as being complacent and stop making efforts’, Guruji said. Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), the prophet of Islam, could have stopped after he won Mecca. But he didn’t. He sent his emissaries to distant lands.’

Nearly a thousand Quantum Graduates enjoyed the workshop which also included special meditations and a Q & A session.

Service is the Essence of Being a Quantum Master: Guruji in Master’s Compact Repeat Course
Promasters' Compact Repeat Course

‘We were doing pretty well as graduates, then why did we need another one?’ Guruji Shahid El Bukhari asked at the beginning of the Master’s Compact Repeat Course, held on November 30 and December 1. ‘It is because even though we fulfilled all our material needs, we still felt something was missing.’ We introduced the Master’s course to fill this void.

Human beings are essentially incomplete entities, he said, and they try to be complete by surrendering to someone or something. Many pursue money, fame, or power to make them complete and secure, but those who are wise pursue truth, and surrender to God.

Guruji said those who have sought truth have all come upon one universal truth. It is the quintessential message of every religion, Do unto others what you want them to do unto you. “The rest is commentary”, he said, quoting a famous Rabbi.

Treating others the way we want to be treated is only possible if we develop universal love and compassion. ‘It is our hearts, and not our brains, that make us truly human’ Guruji said. The purpose of a Quantum Master is to develop his heart and serve as much as possible. “A master is really a servant’, Guruji, said, “The more you can serve, the bigger Master you are’, he concluded.

Almost 700 Quantum Pro-masters gathered for the first ever Master’s Compact Repeat Course which included special meditations and discussions by Guruji and Moulana Sayeedul Haq.

‘There is No Lack of Talent in Bangladesh’: Professor Jamilur Reza Choudhury in Quantum Open Ideas
Prof. Jamilur Reza Choudhury

‘I don’t really consider myself a successful person’ Professor Jamilur Reza Choudhury said in the beginning of his speech at Quantum Open Ideas session on November 28th. But the story he told later showed he is the very epitome of success. The inquisitive and energetic son of a successful engineer, who read everything he could get his hands on and participated in almost every kind of sport, grew up to lead the biggest engineering projects in the country. Dr. Choudhury was involved with the Zamuna Bridge, the Cyclone Shelter Project, BUET’s Computer Center, Math Olympiad, and numerous other things, in addition to his roles as Professor in BUET, Information and Technology Advisor to the caretaker government of 96, and Vice Chancellor of BRAC University.

What are the qualities that take a man to such great heights? In his own words: sincerity. ‘I did everything as sincerely as I could.’ That, and optimism. He never backed down from a challenge. But most importantly, patriotism. Despite the temptations of a comfortable life in USA or Australia, he decided to come back. ‘My friends who live abroad often ask me if I have job satisfaction here’, he says, ‘I tell them I would never have had the chance to be a part of so many interesting projects if I had been abroad.’ ‘There is no lack of talent in this country’ he adds. ‘But there is not enough opportunity to develop it. We always look for a donor. But with the kind of guidance Quantum is providing, many people will gain the confidence to develop their talents and build the Bangladesh of our dreams.’ Amen to that!

Bible and Dhammapada Konica

Although the rituals may vary, the essence of every religion is the same eternal truth. The konicas on the Holy Bible and the Dhammapada, published on November 22 and 26 respectively, testify this truth.

The publication ceremonies were a celebration of religious harmony and universal love. Rev. Paulinus Costa, Archbishop of Dhaka was present as the chief guest in the publication ceremony of the Bible Konica, and Rev. Theotonius Gomes, Bishop of Archbishop’s House was present as the special guest. Both appreciated Quantum’s role in spreading the message of peace and harmony and said Quantum’s work complemented their own efforts in this regard.

Eminent theologian Acharya Dr. Paresh Chandra Mandal chaired both ceremonies. Thanking the guests, Shahid El Bukhari Mahajataq, Chairman of Quantum Foundation, said Quantum is deeply indebted to them for their kindness, and would try to repay them by loving and working for humanity.
